Welcome to the Althof family homepage. We are a family with Danish/German/American roots. Right now we live in Denmark, well actually since summer 2010, where we enjoy life, work, study, and generally have a good time.

It's funny how the interest in writing on the homepage comes and goes over time. We do update it once in a while, but not very often right now, and especially not in English. These days most of our communication is on Facebook, which is a shame. Please write in the guestbook, if you would like to see more frequent updates.

Finally! We pulled out the shiny stuff and let the boys decorate the Christmas tree. This after we finished replacing the 110V lights in the top segment and got temporary lights on the middle segment. The boys had fun so it is not important how the decorations are distributed or how much stuff has been hung.

Ok, maybe it is possible to put on too much decoration...

Sometimes I just feel like writing a little. Last week, while I was on my way home from my training class in Germany, Daniela sent me this picture. She had somehow succeeded in getting all of the boys into nice clother and to look in about the same direction at the same time...

The boys in Christmass dress

When I got home, we went straight to confectionary making with Xander's class except Lukas, who went to his own class' Christmas party. The Danish traditions are nice too...

EnglishTick tock, time is flying
Monday 12 December 2011 - 17:46 RSS Link Lars Althof

Time is passing really fast here in Denmark, we cannot keep up. Lately we have not been home much, and when we have, we have had guests in the house...

We did celebrate a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends in November. A nice day with turkey, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and everything else. True, that is not a Danish tradition, but we needed an excuse ti get the people we like together and fill our stomachs. It also gives us the opportunity to show them, what we were subjected to while living abroad...

I have taken leadership training and met a lot of colleagues from all over Europe. It was incredibly exciting and instructive to listen both to our facilitator and to the experiences of my colleagues from other countries. Even if, on the surface, we know about each other's cultures, there are things buried.. and yet, we are all human, and we care about the same things.

Tonight is the night where the christmas tree is erected. The boys will decorate it over the week, and then we will see how many of the lights get converted to 230V this year.

EnglishGrowing like crazy

We got the boys measured again. It is obvious who is the picky eater.. No, that is not quite fair, Lukas was smaller to begin with., and the difference in height has stopped increasing.

Height chart

Ruben is still growing like crazy.

We also plotted them against the ideal curves for Denmark. Ruben follows the 97th percentile quite nicely, Xander is 50th, and Lukas is 3rd percentile.
